Glacier National Park Wedding | Logan + Eric – Part 2

After their wedding ceremony at the Apgar Amiptheatre on Lake McDonald, Logan and Eric’s rustic reception was held just across the way at the Glacier Outdoor Center in a beautiful field under the open sky. As we experienced at our own Montana wedding, the late-summer weather can often be unpredictable, but a little rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Hands were warmed ’round the bonfire, s’mores were toasted all melty-hot, and when the dinner bell rang, everyone noshed on succulent pulled BBQ pork. Mm-mmh!

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Logan and Eric had huckleberry pies, homemade by a friend of the family. There really is nothing like a Montana huckleberry, and these were amazing! Logan’s dad said a party wasn’t a party without the family recipe carrot cake, so he got his own special cake and had a big ol’ slice.

Once everyone’s bellies were full, the dancing started, and I’d be hard-pressed to say if I’ve ever seen a pair of dancers as full of fun and love as Logan and Eric. As the celebration continued, guests packed the tent and danced late into the night, one smile passing into the next.

Sparrow and Log, thank you so much for letting us be a part of your wedding day and for sharing with us the common bond that is a history in Glacier. We wish you happiness and a lifetime of fond memories. Cheers!

Glacier National Park Wedding | Logan + Eric – Part 1

We were so giddy with excitement when Logan and Eric asked us to photograph their wedding in Montana’s Glacier National Park. We were married in Glacier two years ago and between the two of us have a lifetime of memories at the park — it has also been one of the biggest inspirations to me as a photographer. When I started Persimmon Images in 2009, one of my goals was to someday photograph a wedding in the park. I had no idea that day would come so soon!

Logan grew up just outside Glacier in Coram, Montana, so it’s been her stomping ground since she was a little girl. She and Eric met in Montana and now are Seattle locals. Needless to say, we hit it off from our first meeting over lunch.

Logan and Eric’s wedding day was peaceful, relaxing, and full of heartwarming moments. I can’t count the number of times I turned around to see Logan on the verge of happy tears. She was such a gorgeous bride! Logan got ready at her family home in Coram and Eric in their small honeymooner’s cabin at the Glacier Outdoor Center. Before the ceremony, had their “first look” on the shores of Lake McDonald facing the peaks of the continental divide and Logan Pass. I’ve rarely seen the lake as smooth, calm, and beautiful as it was that day.

After spending some quiet moments alone on the shore, they were joined by friends and family who were trickling in for the ceremony at the nearby Apgar Amphitheater. The lakeside amphitheater was a beautiful ceremony site in what I consider to be one of nature’s most striking “cathedrals.” They were serenaded by their friends singing and playing guitar and exchanged rings and vows under Montana’s wide open big sky.

Enjoy the photos — Next up, their reception, details, and dancing!

Evergreen Gardens Wedding in Bellingham | Mary Kate + Paul

We captured so many great details and wonderful moments at this Bellingham wedding that it took me a few days to put together this post. But it was worth the time it took, and made me fall in love with Mary Kate and Paul (and their wedding) all over again!

Mary Kate and Paul grew up together with parents who were close friends… and their marriage was a heartwarming celebration of their longstanding relationship and their new family. They planned a beautiful outdoor wedding at Evergreen Gardens outside Bellingham. Normally, Washington summers are warm and dry, perfect for a garden wedding. This year, the weather didn’t want to cooperate…

While many brides would (understandably) be upset and scramble to set up a plan B, Mary Kate and Paul calmly and graciously let the venue coordinator know that, no, they would not be moving their wedding inside. I was so, so impressed that they didn’t show an ounce of frustration, worry, or stress about the weather. Nothing at all could put a damper on their spirits, and the day was all the better for it.

Mary Kate was absolutely radiant and Paul was grinning from ear to ear each time I saw him. The strength of support and level of excitement from their friends and family was so intense, and their guests so happy that they seemed to be floating on clouds. In the end, it was the rain that made their wedding especially unique and beautiful… not a single person seemed to notice, and the colorful canopy of umbrellas made the ceremony something breathtaking to behold.

The way MK and Paul looked at each other with complete adoration was so lovely to witness, especially during their wedding ceremony. It was apparent that everyone was celebrating wholeheartedly right along with them, smoking cigars, toasting marshmallows, and dancing the night away. The speeches at their reception were the most touching I have ever heard… the father of the bride gave an absolutely epic speech (disregarding the timer he set for himself) to acknowledge each special guest and their support for the couple.

MK and Paul, we were so happy to be there for you, and so privileged to witness you sealing your commitment to each other. You’re both incredible people, and we know you’ve got a long, happy future together.

Enjoy the photographs, and be sure to check out their wedding day slide show, below!

Bellingham Garden Wedding Slideshow | Mary Kate + Paul

On this rainy Saturday, I’m reminded to smile by Mary Kate and Paul, who were married on a day with a similar downpour this August. They insisted on having their ceremony out-of-doors to celebrate the beautiful Evergreen Gardens grounds, and the resulting collage of umbrellas made the scene even more picturesque.

These two have known each other since childhood and share something truly special, which you can see just by looking at them. Working on their photos has reminded me what an amazing wedding it was. And so, so much fun!

I’m planning a lengthy photo blog post (which was SUPPOSED to go along with this, but I had to get the slideshow *just* right) for tomorrow. Enjoy the story of their day below, and keep an eye out for more.
