Sample Photo Guest Book Album | Jessica + Steven’s Capitol Hill Engagement

We recently picked up this sample engagement album from our favorite printing company. It’s made with their brand-new photo + silk fusion covers, and to be a little different we designed it with a photo front and an entirely silk-covered back. This album is designed specifically to be a photo guest-book at a wedding: it’s printed on easy-to-sign felt paper (that takes ink great!), has lay-flat pages for easy writing + a panoramic look, and extra white space around the photos for signatures! The felt paper feels so nice and soft, and adds a lovely texture to the images. Have a look below!

What do you think? Would you get an album for your guests to sign, or prefer one all for yourself? 🙂

The Finishing Touches | Packaging It All Up for Clients

I took a few quick snapshots when I packed up Eric and Logan’s wedding photographs to send to them in the mail. We sent them a DVD with a collection of all their images (each one edited) sized for print and Web, two special notes they’d written for each other on their wedding day, some prints, and a few surprise treats from us. I like the way it looks all put together! What do you think?

Gifts, CDs, Cards, and surprises included in wedding photography packaging by Seattle wedding photographer Persimmon Images

Believe it or not, the box and the packing material come from Office Max: Caremail Ecopacking and generic corrugated white shipping boxes. Our CD tins are from American Digital. The cards I designed myself using templates from our professional photo and press lab, ProDPI. My favorite wraphia and ribbon and the white envelope enclosure come from Paper Source, which is like crack to me. The chocolates and wrapping paper I picked up at a local stationery shop. There’s some variation in the packaging as far as what gifts we send (It’s a surprise! here it’s photo coasters from Crate and Barrel) and how they’re wrapped. I collect a lot of eclectic high-end papers that strike my fancy and use them when appropriate.

I’d love to hear from you, too!! If you are (or were) a bride, what besides a disc of images would you like to receive from your wedding photographer with your wedding coverage? What would make it feel special for you when you opened the package after getting it in the mail?

What’s New?

I haven’t fallen under a bus, though sometimes it feels like it! Life has been remarkably crazy for the past several weeks, and I’m just relishing every small chance to breathe. Justin and I recently bought our first house, and we’ve been spending a large amount of time turning it into a home. We’re almost there… the furniture is (mostly) in place and we (mostly) have a handle on our massive Master List of tasks.

Meanwhile, I’m editing and preparing images from four weddings, two senior portrait sessions, three sweetheart sessions, and at least one family session. AND I’m painting, organizing, and shopping for our new boudoir studio.  Yikes!

On that front, my work was just featured on the Seattle Metropolitan Magazine’s What Wear When blog in a post about boudoir photography!

I’ve also been dedicating a lot of donated time to Get Hitched, Give Hope, a fabulous Seattle wedding charity that fundraises for the Making Memories breast cancer foundation. I’m the Press Coordinator on the PR team, which is almost like another full-time job!

Tickets for GHGH will go on sale any minute now, and then I’ll have a post here filled with all the fabulous details. But I don’t want to scoop, uh, myself, so I’ll wait until we’re ready.

The Get Hitched, Give Hope blog also recently featured a post about me as a team member. There’s a little mini interview, so go check it out!

I have lots of photos to share, and I’ll be back on the blogging bandwagon shortly. In fact, I’m also starting to design a portfolio site that one of my clients is coding in trade. So I’ll finally have a nice, big screen full of gorgeous images for you all to peruse when you want to see what sort of work I’m doing.

This summer is one of my busiest yet and I suppose I couldn’t ask for more given that it’s also my first summer as a self-employed businessperson. How about you all, are you keeping busy too?

Our Favorite Things | Cypress Albums

Cypress handmade wedding, boudoir, and portrait photography albums by Persimmon Images in Seattle, WACypress handmade wedding, boudoir, and portrait photography albums by Persimmon Images in Seattle, WA

Albums have become very important to me as a photographer because of my experience as a bride. Like most people these days, I just wanted my images on disc. I figured I’d just make my own album… I have a background in design and can do a mean layout, so why not, right?

Well, it’s been two years and I’m only now getting around to designing our album. When my wedding was over and life moved on, I found that so too did the ambition for projects like wedding album design. Had I been a photographer at the time and known how hard it would be for me to get around to designing my own album or understood the quality difference between retail/consumer book outlets and professional photographic binderies, I most definitely would have had our photog make us an album. Now, I find myself in the interesting position of offering what the current market demands (a disc of image for purchase) while wanting to educate people on why, most often, that just really isn’t enough.

One of the first things I investigated as a professional photographer was the best of the great book binderies and album companies in the industry. And there are a lot of ’em. It was difficult narrow it down to the one company we knew we’d want to stick with: someone who would provide us with albums that could be alternately sweet, sexy, funky, or classy but whose product spoke undeniably of quality craftsmanship and materials.

Enter Cypress Albums. If it weren’t for Cypress, it would have been very hard for me to pick from a cadre of high quality but quite similar book vendors. Cypress stood out as a bindery that offers truly handcrafted albums (neat!) with quality materials (Japanese bookbinding fabrics!) and a real eye toward archival quality. In person that quality is even more apparent: these albums have texture and personality. There’s an attention to detail in their books that makes them perfectly suited to holding love stories and memories.

At this year’s WPPI conference and trade show in Las Vegas, I had a chance to meet all my favorite album vendors in person and really feel their books. And the Cypress albums were absolutely delicious. So we’ve decided to source our albums solely through Cypress: Hurray! So far, we’ve loved working with them (real people!) and we know that they’ll provide only the best.

The photos in this post are of our mini folios and Cypress swatch book: 18 fabric choices and complimentary ribbons for four types of drool-worthy albums. As our sample albums arrive, we’ll be posting lots of photos of the different styles and options we’ve chosen for you. And we’ll finally be getting an album of our own, too!
