Justin took this spiffy photo during a recent portrait session with the Seneviratne family. Can you guess where we were? The rest will be here tomorrow…

I thought I’d share some photos from a fall session at the dog park. This was a tough one. Because I hadn’t scoped the site, I didn’t know it would be in deep shadow during the evening. It was dark, and those dogs move fast. Even enticing them with treats barely made it possible to get shots with the ISO cranked way up and the lens wide open.
The main subject of this shoot was Emma, the husky pup with a beautiful smile. I was only able to get photos of her after an hour at the dog park, when she finally wore out. But it was worth it, because it meant that her cute pink tongue was hanging out. GLEE!
This fellow loved nomming some sticks. He was sweet and soft… I think he looks like a Labradoodle, but I’m not sure.
Little Miss Emma during a quiet moment, staring at one of her friends on the other side of the fence. She’s less than a year old and full of energy.
O HAI!
Oh, and hello to you, too! What do we have here? A lovely, smiling Rhodesian Ridgeback? Can you believe that Rhodies hunted lions in Africa?
See the awesome ridge on his back? All the fur there feels like it’s on backwards, arranged into a little mohawk. And those cute folded ears!
Someone tell me, is this another labradoodle? Because both this fellow and the pup in the first photo look like different kinds of that breed. He was especially soft and so anerable.
Those eyes! They slay me!! Also, we gots some pink tongues all up in heahhhh!
Little Miss Emma wags goodbye. Next time I see her, she’ll be even more grown up, but probably just as cute. 🙂
On a warm, bright September Sunday, the Rafaels gathered in their Ravenna backyard to celebrate the 60th birthday of their esteemed patriarch. Many friends and family came from across town–and across states–to share in the festivities. I was proud to photograph as they laughed, chatted, and feasted on delicious brunch and birthday cheesecake.
The Rafaels are proud grandparents of Caleb and Liam, two of the cutest little boys I have ever seen. Just look at little Liam… I want to put him in my pocket and take him home.
And here’s Liam’s big brother, Caleb, helping granddad blow out the candles on his birthday cake. I haven’t seen Caleb since he was Liam’s age, and I cannot believe how much hair he has now!
Caleb and Liam’s mommy is a good friend (and college roommate) of my husband, Justin. I’ve known her since high school, and it’s wonderful to see her new family so happy and healthy. Her children are beautiful, and she’s all smiles.
I know it’s hard work being a mom, but I do envy her. What’s more wonderful than little hands, little feet, and soft baby cheeks?
Toes!!! OM NOM NOM NOM…
These two darlings were so well-behaved when we gathered them with the rest of the family for some group portraits in the shade of the backyard trellis.
OK, so they weren’t always perfect models… but the beauty of photography is that one perfect moment can last forever! (And we can just toss out the photos with unflattering faces or nose picking. 😉 )
Eventually Caleb wriggled away, and spent the afternoon having all sorts of adventures.
Jumping on the bed…
Hammering on the coffee table…
Trying to steal my camera…
Et cetera.
The closest Liam got to shenanigans was producing a healthy amount of drool, a little throw up, and a dirty diaper… but all that was easily remedied.
Between the babes and the birthday, there was plenty of love to go around. No rush, no hurry, just an ideal Seattle September afternoon with lots of time to savor the moment.
A big thank you to the Rafaels for letting me be a part of their family celebration. I hope every day is as filled with joy as the afternoon we spent together.
This is Isabella… Bella, for short. She’s still a wee pup, less than a year old and full of energy. The funny thing is, you’d think she was the chillest dog on the planet by these photos. We waited for her to cool down from a long day of spazzing about before taking her picture. Aside from a few rousing bouts of tug of war, she was cool as a cucumber. In fact, you’d think that no one was paying attention to her at all (quite to the contrary of reality) by how sad she made herself look in a few shots. I think Cute Overload calls those “Princess Di eyes.”
She has a sweet personality, like most Goldens. I think she’ll make a lovely companion for her family, who recently lost the Golden Retriever who had been with them for many years. Their house is still full of photos of him, and I can tell they will be very, very good to Bella. She’s a lucky girl!
